"The Torpilles Line: The Fan That Punishes"
Some ships win their duels with cannon fire, others by boarding. Dovion's Torpilles line wins by punishing: every bad trajectory the enemy takes, every maneuver a beat too slow, becomes a chance to unleash its Éventail de torpilles (Torpedo Fan). This article is a usage guide: how to play the Torpilleur and its upgrades, when to open the fan, and which habits will stop you from wasting your active.
Three hulls, one idea
The line ladders up like this: Torpilleur at level 15, Cotre-lame at level 30, Foudre des mers (Sea Lightning) at level 45. Like every line in Dovion's tree, it's built around a single verb — here, to torpedo.
The E-key active launches a fan of 3 simultaneous torpedoes. At level 45, the Foudre des mers bumps the salvo up to 5 torpedoes. It's a power jump that changes how you play: where the Torpilleur carefully picks its angles, the Foudre des mers can saturate an entire area.
When to open the fan
The classic beginner mistake: firing your torpedoes the moment the cooldown is up, at maximum range, at a target with all the time in the world to dodge. Result: zero damage, and your active on cooldown at the worst possible moment.
Here are the windows that actually pay off:
- The engaged target: a ship already mid-duel with someone else isn't watching your direction. That's your moment.
- The corridor: between two islands, along a coastline, the opponent has nowhere to go. The fan covers the whole passage.
- The big hull: level-45 giants dodge poorly. Against a Dreadnought or a Titan cuirassé (Armored Titan), several torpedoes in the salvo will connect.
- The wounded runner: an enemy fleeing in a straight line is a textbook target.
Conversely, save your active against a nervous small hull circling you — you'll rarely land a hit, and you'll want the fan ready for when it finally slips up.
Managing distance: the crux of the fight
The Torpilles line is played at the distance YOU choose. Too close, and you expose yourself to rammers — a well-placed Charge from the Narval line punishes you severely. Too far, and your salvos become predictable.
Good practice: hold at medium range, harass with your normal shot (Space), and save the Torpedo Fan for the moment your opponent is boxed in. Basic fire does the pressuring; torpedoes do the finishing.
Habits that make good torpedo players
- Track your cooldown. The recharge timer is displayed on screen — a torpedo player who knows their rhythm strings together pressure and salvos without a dead moment.
- Anticipate, don't aim. Fire where the enemy WILL be, not where they are. The fan forgives small anticipation errors since it covers an arc.
- Use the terrain. Islands and obstacles close off escape routes. An enemy pinned against a coastline has only one direction left to dodge in.
- Watch for the invisible. The Vaisseau Fantôme (Ghost Ship) of the Spectre line loves ambushing gunners fixated on their target.
The bottom line
The Torpilles line shows no mercy — to your enemies or to you. It rewards reading the game more than reflexes: if you love laying traps at range and watching a whole fan close in on a panicked hull, you've found your home.
