Steam ships don't form a line of their own: you'll run into them across several branches of the game's 9 lines, generally in the heaviest, most patient corners of the tree:
- the Monitor cuirassé (Armored Monitor) and the Titan cuirassé (Armored Titan), the upper tiers of the Mortier line;
- the Brûle-Flots (Wave Burner), the fiery endpoint of the Pièges line;
- the Baleinier (Whaler) and the Léviathan des Abysses (Abyssal Leviathan), pillars of the Profondeurs line — the steam branch par excellence;
- the Armada marchande (Merchant Armada), the commercial peak of the Flottille line.
In other words: siege fire, terrain control, support, and economy. In Dovion, steam is the camp of those who build their victory instead of stealing it.
What steam says about you
Look at the list: none of these ships play surprise or dodging. Each imposes its presence differently.
The Monitor and Titan cuirassés lob shells over islands — siege artillery that ignores geography, described in our Mortier line guide. The Brûle-Flots drops barricades, sets them on fire, and can even melt pack ice into channels: it doesn't just cross the world, it reshapes it. Why choose steam?
Three good reasons to join the smokestack camp:
- Consistency. These ships have stable identities: bombard, hold, heal, trade. No mandatory big play, no window of action you absolutely can't miss — just efficiency that compounds minute after minute.
- Presence. A Titan cuirassé or a Léviathan entering an area instantly changes its dynamics. You don't accidentally sail around these hulls: you reroute on purpose.
- Style. Let's be honest: in a world with the look of a Ghibli film, the silhouette of a steamship pumping smoke over a pastel sea has real charm.
The limits of steel
Quiet strength has its downside: these hulls don't cope well with situations that demand vanishing or outrunning trouble. A Ghost Ship will always pick the moment to engage; a fast corsair will always decide the angle.
