Surviving the Center of the Map: Fog, Bosses and Fortune

· 3 min read · by the Dovion crew

There's a spot on the map every captain talks about in hushed tones: the center. Dovion's central lagoon is wrapped in thick fog, home to bosses, and yet everyone ends up going there anyway — because that's where the biggest fortunes in the game are sleeping. This guide explains why to go, when, and above all, how to make it back out.

Why risk the center?

The lagoon's principle boils down to one formula: maximum risk, maximum reward. Specifically, the center concentrates:

In short: the outskirts keep you alive, the center makes you king.

The fog: your worst enemy (or your ally)

The lagoon's haze cuts down what you can see — and what others can see of you. Two ways to read it:

  1. As prey: every bank of fog could hide a boss, a mermaid, an ambushing player. Advance slowly, hug the landmarks, and treat anything that emerges from the white as hostile until proven otherwise.
  2. As a predator: the fog is an ambusher's best friend. Gold-laden players crossing the lagoon are targets who won't see you coming.

Note for strategists: the Forteresse flottante (floating fortress, Traps line) has the Fanal (signal beacon), a beam that cuts through the fog and even reveals invisible ships. In the lagoon, that tool is worth its weight in gold.

The bosses: the big ones first

The center holds the game's bosses, and they share a trait that changes everything: they prioritize bigger players, level 30 and up. Two practical consequences:

Notable residents include the Mermaid Queen, and the Guardian, who respawns about 25 seconds after dying — the most stubborn boss in the game.

The five-rule survival plan

  1. Sell EVERYTHING before entering. A full hold in the fog is a walking will. The center's gold is earned with an empty hold.
  2. Spot the lighthouses and navigate from landmark to landmark rather than in a straight line through the white.
  3. Keep your ability (E key) available: in the lagoon, it's used more often to escape than to attack.
  4. Enter with a precise goal — sell a mermaid at the altar, attempt a boss — and leave as soon as it's done. Deaths in the center are almost always deaths of greed.
  5. Beware groups of mermaids: they're aggressive in packs, and their cry can call in reinforcements. The topic deserves a guide of its own.

When should you go?

There's no "official" level, but there is a clear logic: as long as your hull is fragile, the center will cost you more than it earns you. Wait until you have an established line and a mastered active ability. And remember that at level 30+, the bosses will take a personal interest in you — the lagoon's fortune has to be earned at every stage.
