The Mermaid Queen: Facing the Lagoon Boss
Every mermaid in Dovion answers to someone. The Mermaid Queen sits at the top of her species: a boss in her own right, who turns a simple crossing of the lagoon into an adventure story. If ordinary mermaid packs already give you cold sweats, this guide will help you prepare to meet their sovereign.
Who is the Mermaid Queen?
In the game's creature hierarchy, the Queen holds a place apart: where ordinary mermaids hunt in packs and rely on numbers, the Queen is a boss — a threat that stands entirely on her own. She belongs to the bestiary of the central lagoon, that foggy zone where Dovion concentrates its greatest dangers and its greatest rewards.
And like every boss in the center, she follows a general rule worth knowing by heart: the lagoon's bosses prioritize bigger players, level 30 and up. If you're sailing your final hull, assume you're on her list.
Before the fight: preparation is 80% of the job
No tactical finesse makes up for poor preparation. Before you go looking for the Queen:
- Empty your hold. It's rule number one of the center: any unsold gold is gold you're betting on your own survival. Sell, then enter.
- Arrive with your active ability available. Your E key is your joker — spending it on a passing mermaid right before you run into the Queen is the classic mistake.
- Scout your exit. Fog disorients; deciding where to flee has to happen before the fight, not during it. The lagoon's lighthouses are your landmarks — our center survival guide covers navigating the haze in detail.
- Watch out for her court. The Queen reigns over subjects: mermaids lurk nearby, and their cry can call in reinforcements. A boss fight that draws in a pack can turn into a sinking very fast.
During the fight: the principles that save you
Every hull will experience this duel differently, but a few principles apply to all:
- Respect the distance. Lagoon boss means a permanent danger zone around her. Your mobility is your first defense: never commit to a corridor with no way out.
- Strike in windows. Deal your damage when the opening is clean, fall back when it isn't. Fog limits your vision: patience counts double.
- Watch the other players. A center boss is an opportunist magnet. The real danger isn't always the Queen — it's the Dreadnought waiting for you to do the work. Our tips for fighting bosses in a group without losing the loot apply here to the letter.
- Know when to bail. A retreat with dented HP beats a heroic sinking. The Queen will still be there; your cargo might not be.
Why put yourself through this?
Because the lagoon pays those who dare. The center is the richest zone in the game, and overcoming its threats is one of the accomplishments that matter — right alongside selling a captured mermaid at the altar, that famous XP jackpot described in our mermaids guide. Facing the Queen is also, simply, one of the great moments the game has in store.
In summary
Prepare like it's an expedition (empty hold, ability ready, exit scouted), fight in windows while respecting the distance, keep an eye on the vultures, and don't be ashamed to retreat. The Mermaid Queen rewards methodical captains and punishes tourists.
