"The Pièges Line: Barricades, Beacon, and Wave Burner"
Every line in Dovion fights ON the sea. Only one fights WITH the sea: the Pièges line, the one that turns open water into a maze. From the Caboteur to the Brûle-Flots, this branch of the tree doesn't ask "how do I sink the enemy?" but "where will the enemy still be able to sail?" If the word "architect" speaks to you more than the word "gunner," keep reading.
Caboteur, Forteresse flottante, Brûle-Flots
The line progresses from the Caboteur (level 15) to the Forteresse flottante (Floating Fortress, level 30), then to the Brûle-Flots (Wave Burner, level 45). Three hulls, three tiers of the same territory-control philosophy — the most singular of the game's 9 lines.
The Estacades: walls on the sea
The E-key active plants Estacades, floating log barricades worth roughly 250 HP that do three things at once:
- they block ships — no forcing your way through without destroying them first;
- they block cannonballs — a well-placed wall is instant cover;
- they damage on contact — bumping into one costs HP.
A barricade, then, is a rampart, a shield, and a passive weapon all at once. Uses are invented on the fly: cutting off a runner's retreat, sealing a strait between two islands, protecting a wounded ally, snapping the Charge of a Narval-line rammer coming in at full speed. Every wall you drop rewrites the map a little.
The Fanal: the anti-ghost
Starting with the Forteresse flottante, the line gains the Fanal (Beacon): a beam that pierces fog and reveals invisible ships. In a game where the Vaisseau Fantôme (Ghost Ship) and its Dead Sails lurk about, this is maritime police power: the Pièges player is the only one who can say "I see you" to a Spectre.
That simple beam changes a match's dynamics: stealthy players avoid your area, explorers of the foggy center seek out your company. You become a landmark — quite literally.
The Brûle-Flots: when the architect turns pyromaniac
At level 45, the line goes spectacular. The Brûle-Flots can set its own barricades on fire: your defensive walls become lines of flame. The maze the enemy already hesitated to cross starts to burn.
And that's not all: the Brûle-Flots can also melt pack ice into channels. In the frozen biome, you literally carve your own routes — passages only you decided on, in the middle of terrain everyone else just has to deal with.
The limits of the master of the terrain
Two opponents complicate life for this line. The first is the Mortier: its arcing shell sails right over barricades — your walls don't stop it, and it knows that. The second is pure mobility: out in open water, far from any chokepoint, a fast small hull can simply refuse to play your game and route around your constructions.
The lesson: a Pièges player chooses their battlefields. Straits, the approaches to selling points, dense island clusters — anywhere geography already limits the options, your barricades finish closing the trap.
