Earning Gold Fast in Dovion: Ore, Fishing, Plunder
Gold is the sinew of naval war. To earn gold in Dovion, three main methods are available to you — mining, fishing, plundering — and one iron rule sits above them all: gold sitting in your hold isn't yours yet. Here's how to fill your coffers efficiently, from calm farming to full-blown plunder.
Mining rocks: the foundation of farming
The archipelago's rocks carry ore: approach, mine, cash in. It's the most reliable gold source in the game, one that depends on neither your firepower nor your luck.
- Early in a match, it's your main bread and butter: a Chaloupe can't plunder anyone, but it mines just as well as a Galion (galleon).
- Choose your spots: the further you get from busy areas, the less you'll be bothered while harvesting.
- Stay mobile: a stationary miner is a stationary target.
Fishing: gold that bites the hook
The sea itself is a resource: fishing pairs very well with mining, especially for hulls built for it. The Depths line (Baleinier/whaler, Jonque au trésor/treasure junk, Léviathan des Abysses/abyssal leviathan) has even made it its specialty, with an outsized fishing ability. If the "worker of the sea" style speaks to you, it's a genuine economic path.
Plunder: pirates first, players second
Sinking pays. And not everything that floats carries the same risk:
- Pirates and AI ships: every room holds 30 to 48 AI-controlled ships, at varied levels. Regular events — corsairs, raiders, skiffs — literally bring the loot to your doorstep, announced on screen. Our guide to handling corsairs and raiders will help you sort the prey from the predators.
- Merchant caravans: they travel under escort, but their cargo draws plenty of interest. Plunder or protect — it's a whole dilemma.
- Players: the most profitable, and the most dangerous. Target weakened or overloaded ships — and remember that the mini-map's golden marker signals a bounty target.
Selling: the only step that truly counts
Let's say it again: the gold you collect piles up in your hold, and it only becomes truly yours once it's sold at a trading post. Sink with a full hold, and your entire haul will have gone to enrich whoever sank you.
Finding the right selling rhythm is a constant trade-off:
- Sell often = maximum safety, but back-and-forth trips that eat into your farming time.
- Sell rarely = maximum efficiency, but every extra minute raises the stakes of your next encounter.
As a rule of thumb: the more dangerous the zone, the earlier you sell. Before entering the central fog, empty your hold — always. We go deeper into this art of timing in managing your hold.
Gold is only half the story
One last point: gold pays the bills, but it's XP that grows your ship up to level 50 and unlocks evolutions. The two usually progress together, but not always at the same pace — knowing which to prioritize depending on the moment in the match is a skill of its own, which we cover in XP and levels: how it works.
