XP and Levels in Dovion: How It Works (Up to Level 50)
Behind every feared captain sits a simple mechanic: XP. Dovion's XP and level system follows the great tradition of progression-based .io games — you play, you earn experience, your level climbs up to 50, and every milestone makes you concretely stronger. Here's how it all fits together, and where to find the XP that really pays off.
The principle: a level, some points
Every level gained gives you points to spend on your stats — Rate of Fire, Ram (which boosts collision damage), and others. That's the "continuous" progression: match after match, your ship hits harder, tanks better, or rams harder depending on your choices. To spend those points well, we wrote a mini stat-allocation guide.
The 5, 15, 30 and 45 milestones: the real turning points
Four levels change the very nature of your ship, just like the classes in Diep.io:
- Level 5: first path choice — Goélette (schooner, fast), Brigantin (brig, tough) or Chalutier (trawler, economy).
- Level 15: the big line choice, among nine. This is where you unlock your active ability on the E key.
- Level 30: your line crosses a threshold with its mid-tier hull.
- Level 45: the final hull, the peak of the 31-ship tree.
Each of these milestones is a moment of power: you've just gained raw strength, often against opponents who haven't crossed theirs yet. The full breakdown of the nine paths is in the 9 ship lines guide.
And after 45? Levels 46 to 50
Once you're in your final hull, progression keeps going: levels 46 to 50 grant stat points to fine-tune your build. No new hull, but a ship finally reaching its full potential — this is the phase where the top leaderboard spots get decided.
The XP sources that change everything
All normal game activity earns XP, but a few sources stand out from the rest:
- Selling mermaids at the black market: capture a mermaid and sell it at the altar in the central lagoon — the XP payout is enormous. Risky (the center is still the center), but it's the most spectacular progression accelerator in the game. Full instructions in our mermaids guide.
- Combat: sinking ships — AI, event pirates, players — fuels your progression far faster than passive farming.
- Referrals: outside of a match, the "Challenge a Friend" link earns +250 banked XP for both you and your friend once they've played for 10 minutes.
Spending your XP differently
A little-known detail: XP isn't just a progress bar, it's also a currency. Revenge tickets, which let you resume your match after dying, cost 800 XP each. Sacrificing a bit of your reserve to save a great match is often a winning trade — we cover this in the revenge tickets guide.
In summary
Level up by playing actively rather than passively, prepare for each evolution milestone (5, 15, 30, 45), save levels 46-50 to sharpen your build, and don't forget the big one-off bonuses: mermaids at the altar and referrals. Level 50 isn't a distant destination — it's a habit.
The best XP is still the kind you earn yourself: Play Dovion for free and start your climb to level 50.
