Reading Dovion's Events: Caravans, the Black Pearl, and Bosses

· 3 min read · by the Dovion crew

On Dovion, the sea never sleeps: a trumpet blares, a banner slams onto the screen, and suddenly the whole room has the same intel at the same moment. A merchant caravan, the Black Pearl, "Haaland incoming!" — events are the game's great metronome, and they create a fascinating strategic situation: concentrated wealth, publicly announced, at a known time. In other words, a meetup where both the loot AND the crowd are guaranteed. Players who improvise lose hulls there; players who plan ahead make a fortune.

The announcement is PUBLIC information: think accordingly

The naive reflex when an event pops up: charge in. The correct reasoning: everyone just saw exactly what you saw. So the real question is never "where's the event?" but "who else is heading there, and what shape will I be in when I arrive?" Three checks before you set sail:

The event bestiary (and how to play each one)

Every event type has its own logic:

The second-wave strategy

If there's only one technique to remember: don't arrive first. Whoever gets to an event first pays the entry fee — they tank the boss, engage the escort, trigger the traps. The "second wave" player shows up thirty seconds later, fresh, and finds a pre-chewed battlefield: a weakened boss, exhausted winners, loot already scattering. Not very glorious? The leaderboard doesn't grade for style. Ideal position: tucked behind a perimeter island, reading the fight before you commit.

When the event is NOT for you

The last skill, and the rarest one: knowing when to ignore an announcement. If you're a fragile early-game ship, if your hold is overflowing, if the event triggers in the foggy center while you're carefully playing out a late-game run at #1 — let it go. There's always another event; there's no second chance for a sunk run. Events reward opportunism, not attendance.

The next trumpet call could sound any minute now: play Dovion for free and be ready when it does.
