Bounty Hunting: Chasing the Golden Marker

· 3 min read · by the Dovion crew

A golden marker just popped up on your minimap. Somewhere out in the archipelago, a player has a bounty on their head — and Dovion just handed you their location. Bounty hunting is the most thrilling job in the game: half manhunt, half duel, with a jackpot at the end. But it's also a job that kills the careless, because a bounty target never became a bounty target by being harmless. Here's the hunter's manual.

Understanding what the marker tells you (and what it doesn't)

The golden marker on the minimap flags the bounty target. What it gives you: a position, and the promise of a reward. What it does NOT give you: the target's line, their level, their HP status, or — crucial detail — how many other hunters are staring at the same marker as you, right now.

That's the whole subtlety of bounty hunting: you're not heading toward a treasure chest, you're heading toward a meetup everyone's invited to. Reading the minimap around the marker matters just as much as the marker itself — the converging movements of other players tell you how many place settings to expect at the banquet.

Assess before you engage: the reflex that saves runs

Once the target is in sight, resist the urge to charge in. Thirty seconds of observation is worth gold:

And ask yourself THE question of the trade: am I even equipped for this? A speed build can catch any bounty but may lack the firepower to finish it; a tank will finish it but will never catch it without help from the terrain.

The chase: cut them off, don't chase the trail

Rookie mistake: following the marker like a bloodhound. You'll sail exactly in the target's wake, always a length behind. The experienced hunter plays interception: they read the fleeing player's general heading, anticipate their likely destination — a sell point if their hold is full, a quiet zone if they're hurt — and cut the angle.

Think relay too: a fleeing target burns through turbo and focus. If you're losing ground, don't exhaust yourself chasing — hold visual contact via the minimap and wait for their first navigation mistake. Panic does more of the work than your cannons ever will.

The moment of contact: fast and clean

When the window opens, it's short: other hunters are always inbound. This is the moment to spend your E ability and your burst without counting the cost — a bounty gets finished off cleanly, not nibbled to death. Nothing more infuriating than doing all the work of wearing them down and watching an opportunist snipe the final blow.

Bounty collected? Don't celebrate on the spot. You just gained value, you might be hurt, and half the room saw the marker vanish at your position. Cash in, move, sell. And remember the trade's moral: hunt enough bounties, and your own head eventually turns gold on everyone else's minimap. When that day comes, reread our guide to the art of the escape — from the other side of the gun this time.

In short

  1. The golden marker = a location, not a guarantee: assess before engaging.
  2. Study silhouette, behavior, terrain — thirty seconds minimum.
  3. Intercept, don't chase.
  4. On contact: full burst, quick kill, immediate exit.
  5. Sell fast: the rich hunter is the next prey.
