Slither.io Guide: Tips & Strategies to Grow Fast
A glowing snake, multicolored orbs, and one rule that kills: if your head touches another snake, you explode. Slither.io took Agar.io's formula and made it even more nerve-wracking — here, even the server's giant can die to the smallest worm on the map. That's what makes the game so addictive, and it's what every strategy below is built on.
The rules, and THE rule
You steer a snake that grows by swallowing orbs. Click (or double-tap on mobile) to boost. Nothing tricky so far. But remember the golden rule: only your head is vulnerable. Your body is a wall. All the depth of the game flows from this asymmetry: a tiny snake can kill a giant simply by cutting off its path.
Immediate corollary: when a snake dies, it drops its entire mass as glowing orbs. The fastest feasts in the game are crime scenes.
Growing fast: where to find mass
- Follow the big ones: keep a safe distance from a massive snake and wait for it to make a mistake. Its remains will earn you ten minutes of farming.
- Battle zones: wherever several snakes are tangling, there will soon be leftovers. Arrive second, leave first.
- The map's center is rich but crowded; the edges are poor but peaceful. Small, stick to the edges; ambitious, slide toward the center.
- Never collect orbs right against an enemy's body: that's the classic trap — an orb sitting just next to a snake waiting for you to turn.
Boosting: a double-edged weapon
Boosting consumes your own mass — you shrink while you sprint. Boosting is never free: it's an investment. Good use: cutting off a charging snake's path, escaping a forming encirclement, sprinting toward a kill before the scavengers arrive. Bad use: boosting in a straight line "just to move faster," and melting away for nothing. The best Slither.io players rarely boost, but always at the right moment.
Encirclement: the top technique
Once you're big enough, the ultimate strategy is to coil your body around a smaller snake, then tighten the spiral, turn after turn. Your prey ends up with no way out: wherever it goes, it touches your body. It's spectacular, cruel... and risky: while you're circling, your own head stays exposed to snakes outside the spiral. Only launch a spiral if the area is clear. For more, we gathered our favorite traps in the tricks that make you grow fast.
After the snake, the ship?
Slither.io is a game of pure tension: no levels, no classes, one life that's worth everything. If you ever want that same multiplayer adrenaline but with progression — levels, evolutions, bosses — the genre has grown up a lot since. Dovion, for instance, transposes the .io loop into a naval battle: you grow by mining, fishing, and sinking pirates, and you evolve your hull as the match goes on. We put the two games head to head in Dovion vs Slither.io, and other cousins of the snake in 7 games like Slither.io.
One last spiral, then we set sail? Play Dovion for free — it's in the browser, just like your favorite snake.
